What We Believe...

Home

We are a Southern Baptist Church in voluntary cooperation with other Southern Baptist Churches to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to our world.  We believe the Bible is the perfect Word of God.  We know that mankind's sin separates us from God but that salvation is possible through faith in Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.  The vision of New Prospect Baptist Church is to Reach, Teach, and Minister to People.

In addition:

The Bible

We believe the Holy Scriptures as contained in the 66 books of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally inspired Word of God.  It is the inerrant, infallible revelation of God to men and is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.  (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21)

The One True God

We believe that there is one - and only one - living and true God (Isaiah 46:9).  He is infinite,  intelligent spirit, the maker, sustainer, and supreme ruler of heaven and earth (Nehemiah 9:6).  He is inexpressibly glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love (Revelation 4:10-11).  In the unity of the Godhead there are three distinct Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, equal in every divine perfection and exercising distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 John 1:7).

The Deity and Virgin Birth of Christ

We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, that He is the second Person of the Godhead, very God of very God by Whom and for Whom all things were created (John 1:1-14; John 20:28; Colossians 1:16-17).  He was born of a Virgin and became the incarnate Son of God (Matthew 1:18-25)

The Blood Atonement of Jesus Christ

We believe in the substitutionary  atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:18).  We believe that upon the cross He, by the grace of God, tasted death for every man (Hebrews 2:9) and by His shed blood totally paid the price for the redemption of mankind (Colossians 1:20; 1 Peter 1:18-29).

The Bodily Resurrection of the Lord Jesus

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 20; Acts 3:12-26) and that He ascended bodily in Heaven (Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:8-11).  He now sits at the right hand of God the Father as our Mediator, Priest, and Advocate (Hebrews 10:12;  Romans 8:34).

Justification by Faith

We believe that man is justified by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ alone (Romans 3:24-25, 5:1) and that all must be born again by trusting in Christ and receiving salvation as a free gift or be eternally lost (John 3:3-5; 15-18, 36).  There is no other way of salvation (Acts 4:12).

The Eternal Security of the Believer

We believe in the eternal security of all believers who come to Christ for salvation (John 6:37; 10:27-29; 1John 5:11-13).

The Church

We believe that the visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers (Acts 2:41),  associated by faith and fellowship of the gospel (Acts 2:46-47), observing the ordinances of Christ   (1 Corinthians 11:2), governed by His laws and exercising the rights and privileges invested in them by His Word (Matthew 16:18;  18:15-20).  The scriptural officers of a church are pastors and deacons and their qualifications are clearly defined (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9).
